PURPOSE: An optical drive and driving method thereof are provided to effectively confine servo signal and jitter inferiority even if objective lens of material easily affected by heat is used. CONSTITUTION: An optical drive is composed of a light source(190), an objective lens(120), a collimator(140), an actuator for the collimator and a controller. The collimator controls the light to be entered the objective lens. The actuator controls the optical distance of the collimator to the objective lens. The controller corrects the optical distance according to the position correction value of the collimator. After the controller determines the correction distance at the initial stage where a medium is loaded, the controller detects a medium(110).
