The air chamber of hydropneumatic suspension springs 1, 2 are communicable through valves 11, 12 and pipeline 10 with a hydropneumatic accumulator 3 including a liquid chamber which contains a volume of oil adjusted under the control of a valve 4 to maintain a constant suspension height. The valves 4, 11, 12 are actuated by pressure signals received through lines 9 from an hydraulic transmitter cylinder 8 which detects the distance between the vehicle body and an axle directly or is sensitive to pressure changes created in the springs 1, 2 by restricting the movement of the diaphragms separating the air and oil chambers therein by means of perforated resilient inserts (Fig. 2, not shown). The cylinder 8 transmits a signal upon a change of body height to open the valves 11, 12 and operate the valve 4 either to supply oil to the accumulator 3 from a pressure source 5 or exhaust oil from the accumulator to a reservoir 6.</p> |
