The invention relates to an antitheft device for the steering column of an automobile, said device comprising a bolt (7) mounted translatably movable in the antitheft device (1) for blocking the rotation of the steering column, a latch (9) rigidly connected to the antitheft device (1) and arranged for moving the bolt (7), a blocking means (17) movable, in the event the latch (9) disengages from the antitheft device (1), between a rest position and an operative position in which the blocking means (17) translatably blocks said bolt (7). The antitheft device further includes a means (19) for supporting the blocking means (17) in the operative position in order to prevent a position change of said blocking means (17) from the operative position thereof.
