The present invention relates to plant cells and plants which are genetically modified, the genetic modification leading to the increase of the activity of a starch phosphorylating R3 protein in comparison with non-genetically-modified wild-type plant cells or wild-type plants. Furthermore, the present invention relates to means and methods for the generation of such plant cells and plants. Such plant cells and plants synthesize a modified starch. The present invention therefore also relates to the starch synthesized by the plant cells and plants according to the invention, to methods for the production of this starch, and to the production of starch derivatives of this modified starch, and to flours comprising starches according to the invention. Moreover, the present invention relates to nucleic acids coding for starchphosphorylating R3 proteins and to vectors, host cells, plant cells and plants comprising such nucleic acid molecules. Furthermore, the present invention relates to R3 proteins having a starch-phosphorylating activity. |
