The method involves coupling a mobile navigation device (200) with an additional device (300) in a vehicle configuration, where the existing position of the respective vehicle is determined. The mobile navigation device is decoupled from the respective additional device in a framework of a change to a mobile configuration (103). The existing vehicle position is stored in the form of position information assigned to the respective vehicle configuration. An independent claim is included for a navigation system with a control unit.
