[Also in Division F1] An inflation device for varying the pressure in a tyre in accordance with a vehicle's speed comprises a reservoir (Fig. 1, not shown), a pump driven by the wheel and pumping gas from the reservoir to the interior of the tyre 25, and a by-pass allowing gas to leak back again. The pump comprises a resilient tube 15, supported on a cylindrical surface 14 which rotates with the wheel 2, and a roller 38 which is mounted on a fixed axle or other non-rotating member. The roller 38 progressively closes the tube 15 pumping gas from a pipe 22, leading to the reservoir, to a pipe 26, leading via a non- return valve to the tyre 25. The by-pass comprises a flow-restricting device 33, having an adjustable orifice. The reservoir has an inflation valve 35 and is of annular shape and bolted to the wheel. |
