A golf ball comprises a central core wound with an unvulcanized rubber thread which has been crystallized by being rapidly extended to near its breaking point, and provided with an outer cover. The core may either be hollow and filled with liquid or paste, or may comprise a spherical steel member encased in a homogeneous, solid, spherical casing. The cover may be formed from gutta-percha, a non-cellular polyurethane, or a synthetic trans-polymer of a conjugated diene containing up to six carbon atoms in the molecule.
