The machine (1) has a shed forming unit (8) for forming a shed (5), and a catching unit (11) for catching weft threads (9) that are incorporated in the shed. A clamping device (18) i.e. temple device, has clamping jaws (20) operating on a fabric edge, and a pneumatic device (23) is provided for controlled release of the clamping device. A mechanical drive i.e. cam follower drive, mechanically, hydraulically or pneumatically connects the pneumatic device with the catching unit. A spring unit is attached to the clamping device for prestressing the clamping jaws against a fabric (2).
