The present invention relates to a cable and a cord suitable for use in a hospital environment or in a controlled atmosphere environment, and to the method for the manufacture thereof and to the use thereof. In particular, the invention provides a cable comprising: i) a polymer composition; ii) at least one active agent composed of an antimicrobial or microbicidal inorganic compound; said at least one active agent being coupled to the polymer composition via iii) at least one organosilane coupling agent; wherein ii) is selected from silicate, zeolite, titanate or antimonate substituted with silver, copper, zinc, tin, bismuth, lead, cadmium or chromium, and wherein iii) has the formula R13SiR2, wherein R1is methoxyl or ethoxyl, and R2is a) vinyl, b) phenyl, c) aminoalkylaminoalkyl having independently C2or C3alkyl groups, d) C1-4linear or branched alkyl optionally substituted with suphanyl or halogen.
