PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for detecting a touch point are provided to detect a touch point of a finger accurately by analyzing an image obtained by an optical sensor. CONSTITUTION: An edge detector(231) detects an edge image of a finger image from an input image, and a touch point image generator(232) generates a touch point image by using the detected edge image. A coordinate calculating unit(233) calculates touch coordinates from the touch point image. The touch point image generating unit generates the touch point image by using the gradient direction and dimension of the edge image.
