PURPOSE: A liquid crystal alignment material is provided to ensure good liquid crystal alignment property and excellent electrical property, and to form a liquid crystal alignment film with excellent voltage holding rate and afterimage property. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal alignment material comprises one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of polyorganosiloxane having a repeating unit represented by chemical formula 1, hydrolysate thereof, and condensate of the hydrolysate. In chemical formula 1, R^I is a group having a steroid skeleton or a group represented by chemical formula 1a; Z is a sulfur atom or oxygen atom; R^II is a hydrogen atom or methyl group; A^I is a methylene group or C2-10 alkylene group; Y^I is a hydroxyl group, C1-10 alkoxyl group, C1-20 alkyl group or C6-20 aryl group.
