PURPOSE: A composition containing seed of Phaseolus angularis Wight extract, powder, and catechin-7-beta-D-glucose is provided to treat or prevent inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating inflammatory bowl diseases contains seed of Phaseolus angularis Wight powder or extract. The seed of Phaseolus angularis Wight extract is obtained by using ethanol and water as extraction solvent. The composition for preventing or treating inflammatory bowel disease contains catechin-7-O-β-D-glucose. Inflammatory bowel diseases are Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. A pharmaceutical or functional food containing the composition is solid formulation or liquid phase formulation.
