A method to manufacture an integrally bladed rotor, including: cutting a block of material by an abrasive waterjet, undertaken so as to reveal blade preforms extending radially from a disk, whilst retaining the material forming a linking mechanism between at least two preforms of directly consecutive blades, wherein the linking mechanism is spaced radially from the disk; followed by removal of the linking mechanism.
