PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting rotating machine configured using only a cryostat without the use of a freezing medium, wherein a rotor can be cooled readily, efficiently and without fail. SOLUTION: The superconducting rotating machine includes the rotor 12 and the cryostat 14 for cooling the rotor 12. The rotor 12 and the cryostat 14 have a common central axis 1 and are rotated integrally about the center axis 1. The cryostat 14 includes a refrigeration unit 15 that cools the rotor 12, a drive unit 18 that cools the refrigeration unit 15 through a heat conducting unit 16, and compression units 19a, 19b that compress the coolant and supply it to the drive unit 18. The rotor 12 and the refrigeration unit 15 are housed in a body 10 having a vacuum insulated structure; the heat conducting unit 16 communicates with the outside of the body 10 through a sealing bearing 17 provided in the body 10; and the drive unit 18 and the compression units 19a, 19b are arranged outside the body 10.
