PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission and reception module in a significantly reduced size compared to conventional modules. SOLUTION: The transmission and reception module includes a semiconductor laser 11, a grating coupler 13a and a light-receiving element 15. When a plane including a first optical axis 14 connecting the semiconductor laser and the grating coupler is denoted as a first plane 16, a second optical axis 20 connecting the light-receiving element and an external optical system 17 out of the transmission and reception module through the grating coupler intersects the first plane.
