<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color gamut outline calculation apparatus and a color gamut outline calculation program capable of calculating a color gamut without tone inversion, with a sufficient precision rate. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The color gamut outline calculation apparatus 10 includes a device outline forming portion 1, a color converting portion 2, a characteristic point extracting portion 5, and a shaping processing portion 6. The device outline forming portion 1 computes a first outline point on a CMYK color space. The color converting portion 2 converts the first outline point computed by the device outline forming portion 1 into a second outline point on a CIELAB color space. The characteristic point extracting portion 5 extracts a sequence of the first outline points for a feature color defined beforehand on the CMYK color space among the first outline points computed by the device outline forming portion 1, and extracts a sequence of the second outline points corresponding to the sequence of the first outline points among the second outline point converted by the color converting portion 2. As for the sequence of the second outline points extracted by the characteristic point extracting portion 5, the shaping processing portion 6 arrange the profile of the sequence of the second outline points containing a section where tone inversion exists in the CIELAB color space, so that tone inversion may be removed.
