<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of accurate discrimination among skin properties or phenomenal characteristics such as skin barrier function, oily skin phenomena, skin care effects, etc., using the skin physiological indexes of sebum volume or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A skin discrimination method for skin barrier function is characterized by the use of an index of TEWL (Trans Epidermal Water Loss) estimated based on the area and volume of sebum in sampled horny layer cells, a skin discrimination method for skin care execution time is characterized by the use of an index of the shiny face skin area after wash, and a skin discrimination method for skin care effects is characterized by the use of an index of sebum volume sampled from skin.
