<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device of a vehicle for giving a warning to prevent sudden departure caused by the depressing of an accelerator pedal in place of a brake pedal by mistake while suppressing to trouble a driver. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device includes an obstacle detection means 20 for detecting an obstacle present in a travelling direction of a vehicle; a distance detection means 21 for detecting a distance between the vehicle and the obstacle; a weight estimation means 22 for estimating the weight of the vehicle; a shortest reaching time calculation means 23 for calculating the shortest reaching time that is the shortest time after the vehicle starts from the stopped state thereof until the vehicle reaches the obstacle apart by the distance on the basis of the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle, the weight of the vehicle, and the largest start acceleration of the vehicle; and a warning output means 24 for outputting a warning to prevent the depressing of the accelerator pedal in place of the brake pedal of the vehicle by mistake if the vehicle is in the stopped state and the shortest reaching time is not longer than predetermined time and not outputting the warning if the vehicle in the stopped state and the shortest reaching time is longer than the predetermined time.
