<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom type electronic endoscope apparatus capable of observing a magnified image of a lesion smoothly without losing the lesion found at the time of wide observation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This apparatus includes a zoom imaging optical system 2 arranged on the tip of an inserting part 1 of an endoscope, zoom operation means 5, 6 for setting and driving for changing the focus distance of the zoom imaging optical system 2, a monitor 20 for displaying an observation image 23 photographed by the zoom imaging optical system 2, and an auxiliary frame 22 for displaying the observation image 23 overlapped in the observation window 21 of the monitor 20 for showing the observation area when the focus distance of the zoom imaging optical system 2 becomes the predetermined focus distance which is longer than the present setting.
