PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain miniaturization and low cost of an electric double layer capacitor used for assisting a various kinds of power supplies and so on. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor includes: an element 1 into which an anode electrode forming a polarizing electrode layer except an anode lead area formed at one end and a cathode electrode forming a polarizing electrode layer except a cathode lead area formed at one end are laminated to be made, where a separator is between the anode electrode and the cathode electrode, and the anode lead area and the cathode lead area are arranged in the same direction; an anode lead wire 6 and a cathode lead wire 7 respectively bonded to the anode lead area and cathode lead area of the element 1; a metal case 8 housing the element 1 together with an electrolyte; and a sealing rubber 9 having holes through which the anode lead wire 6 and cathode lead wire 7 are respectively passed, and being inserted into an opening of the metal case 8 to seal it. This simple construction improves workability and dimensional accuracy of the electric double layer capacitor, and obtain miniaturization, low cost, and low resistance of the electric double layer capacitor.
