PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly general-purpose, simple, and efficient method for producing a compound having a dicyclohexyltetrafluoroethylene skeleton and to provide an intermediate compound useful in the production of the compound and a fluorine-containing liquid crystal compound. SOLUTION: A method for producing a compound having 1,2-dicyclohexyltetrafluoroethylene skeleton represented by the general formula Cy<SP>a</SP>-CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>-Cy<SP>b</SP>(II) by using a compound represented by the general formula Cy<SP>a</SP>-CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>X (I).
