PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel substituted tetracycline compound useful to treat numerous tetracycline compound-responsive states such as bacterial infections and neoplasms. SOLUTION: The compound is represented by formula (I), wherein X is CH<SB>2</SB>, CH-alkyl or the like; R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>2'</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>10</SP>, R<SP>11</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>are hydrogen or the like; R<SP>4</SP>is dimethylamino or the like; R<SP>5</SP>is hydrogen or the like; R<SP>7</SP>is hydrogen, carboxyl, amino, cyano, phenyl that may be substituted, a heterocycle or the like; R<SP>8</SP>is hydrogen or the like; and R<SP>9</SP>is hydrogen, alkyl, amino or the like.
