PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bipolar trans carotenoid salt compound useful for improving diffusion of oxygen between a red blood cell and a body tissue in a mammal including a human, and to provide the pharmaceutical application. SOLUTION: The compound is expressed by formula YZ-TCRO-ZY (for example, formula (1)) and is not trans sodium crocetinate.
