PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the situation of giving unpleasantness to a user irrespective of the posture or the physical characteristics of the user. SOLUTION: This backrest device of a chair includes a backrest supporting body 110 which arranges a backrest 120 at the back part upper region of a seat body 30 on which a person is seated. The backrest 120 includes an upper part backrest 121 and a lower part backrest 122 which is provided below the upper part backrest 121. The upper part backrest 121 is placed vertically movably against the backrest supporting body 110, and the lower part backrest 122 is placed vertically movably against the backrest supporting body 110.
