PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording system capable of detecting the detachment or attachment of an ink cartridge and identifying the ink cartridge using an optical sensor. SOLUTION: An ink cartridge includes two attaching/detaching detection light shielding sections 63, 64 which are provided on a cartridge body in an attaching direction, having different lengths in the attaching direction and an identification light shielding section 65 which is also provided on the cartridge body and is juxtaposed with the two attaching/detaching detection light shielding sections 63, 64 in the attaching direction. Among the plurality of kinds of ink cartridges, at least one of the number of identification light shielding sections 65 placed in the attaching direction and the lengths thereof in the attaching direction are differentiated.
