PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mounting oscillator for maintaining vibration characteristics that are satisfactory, by preventing a raw material for welding from flowing into a recessed container body. SOLUTION: In this crystal oscillator, a piece 2 of quartz crystal is contained in a recessed container body 1 made up of a bottom wall 1a and a frame wall 1b; a metal film 3 is provided at an opening end of the container body 1; the container body 1 and a metal cover 5 are jointed by seam welding using the raw material 4 for welding; and the piece 2 of quartz crystal is sealed hermetically, and the metal film 3 is provided separately from an inner periphery and an outer circumference of the opening end in the container body 1.
