A fuel battery system whose fuel consumption due to crossover is lower and which can be economically operated. The fuel battery system comprises a fuel battery (10), a main fuel supply system (12) for supplying main fuel which is liquid fuel to the fuel battery (10), a sub fuel supply system (13) for supplying sub fuel which is liquid fuel the saturation vapor pressure of which is lower than that of the main fuel to the fuel battery (10), and an ECU (30) for controlling each portion so that the main fuel which is present in the fuel battery (10) is replaced with the sub fuel when the operation of the fuel battery (10) is stopped.
