The cooking appliance (1) has a waste heat recovery system for pre-heating of drinking water. The waste heat recovery system has two heat exchangers (16) and a storage unit. The former heat exchanger is arranged in a hot zone of the cooking appliance, and feeds the storage unit through a line. The latter heat exchanger is arranged at a drinking water pipe, and another line is fed with heat energy from the storage unit. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for heating of drinking water or usage water in a cooking device for carrying out a cooking process; and (2) an industrial cooking appliance.
