<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device that prevents generation of a reflective hologram on recording in a reflective hologram recording medium and improves an SNR. <P>SOLUTION: A recording medium having a reflective circularly polarizing film (for example, a cholesteric liquid crystal) as a reflecting film of a hologram is used. Polarization directions are controlled in such a manner that on recording, polarization directions in a reference light area and in a signal light area are aligned in the same direction, and on reproducing, polarization directions in the reference light area and in the signal light area are perpendicular to each other. By aligning the polarization directions of the reference light area and the signal light area on recording, both of the signal light and the reference light on recording can be transmitted through the reflective circularly polarization film or both can be reflected on the reflective circularly polarization film, and this prevents recording of a reflective hologram. Upon reproducing, by controlling the polarization directions of the reference light area and the signal light area to be perpendicular to each other as described above, reproducing light can be appropriately guided toward an image sensor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
