PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor for sensing an object gas to be sensed, utilizing the variation in the electrical resistance which can improve its sensitivity and response speed, and to provide a method for manufacturing the gas sensor. SOLUTION: The gas sensor includes an insulating substrate, a positive-side electrode and a negative-side electrode disposed on the substrate, and a gas sensitive section disposed so as to be electrically connected to the positive-side electrode and the negative-side electrode, and is such that the gas sensitive section contains metal particles the surfaces of which are covered by a metal oxide layer.
