PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for punching of an element for a CVT belt which can achieve a lower variation in sheet thickness immediately after punching than that in the conventional technique. SOLUTION: In the method, an element 8 for a CVT belt comprising an approximately triangular head part 81, an approximately rectangular body part 82, and a neck part 83 connecting the head part 81 to the body part 82 is punched from a belt-like material 1. The method comprises a preliminary punching step S1 of forming, by punching, a space part 15 on the outer periphery side of an island-shaped part 10 formed of an approximately pentagonal region so that the connection of the island-shaped part 10 to the surrounding belt-like material 1 through only a connection part 11 is maintained and the part other than the connection part 11 is separated from the surrounding part; a finish blanking step S4 of punching the island-like part 10 while remaining the connection part 11 unremoved to regulate the shape of the element 8; and a separation step S5 of cutting the connection part 11 to separate the element 8 from the belt-like material 1.
