SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP ELEMENT AND SIGNAL PROCESSING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup element capable of transmitting pixel signals read from a pixel section by light signals speedily, and capable of restraining an influence of heat caused by optical communication.

SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup element 1A includes: the pixel section 10A for converting light to electric signals; a substrate 18 on which the pixel section 10A is formed; an A/D conversion section 11A that is formed on the substrate 18 and converts signals read from the pixel section 10A to digital ones; and an optical communication section 12A that is disposed at the back side of the substrate 18 to an incidence direction of light to the pixels section 10A and converts the signal digitized by the A/D conversion section 11A to light signals for output. The signals digitized by the A/D conversion section 11A are transmitted to the optical communication section 12A on the back of the substrate by signal wiring.
