摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a coil spring for pressing and urging a rotary seal ring also as a drive means for arresting relative rotation of the rotary seal ring to a rotating shaft without affecting sealing function. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the mechanical seal configured to press and urge a rotary seal ring 5 to a stationary seal ring 4 by one coil spring 7, one end portion 71 of the coil spring 7 is connected to the rotary seal ring 5 not relatively rotatable by engaging an engagement projection 71a formed by bending its top end inwardly in the radial direction of the coil spring 7 with an engagement recessed part 52a formed in the rotary seal ring 5, and the other end portion 72 of the coil spring 7 is connected to a stopper ring 6 fixed to a rotation shaft 3 not relatively rotatable, whereby the relative rotation of the rotary seal ring 5 to the rotation shaft 3 is arrested by the coil spring 7.
