摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sudden great change in histogram even when the histogram is biased, and even in a scene where the luminance of an entire screen gradually shifts. <P>SOLUTION: A distribution source class Histo[n] corresponding to the luminance value of image data is determined according to a higher bit of the image data. Values of three distribution frequencies down_val, middle_val, and up_val are determined by a LUT according to a lower bit of the image data. At least one of the down_val and the up_val is a value exceeding 0 even when luminance is in any position in the distribution source class. The distribution frequency middle_val is accumulatively added to the determined distribution class Histo[n], the distribution frequency down_val is accumulatively added to the lower class Histo[n-1] of the determined distribution source class Histo[n], and the distribution frequency up_val is accumulatively added to the upper class Histo[n+1] of the determined distribution source class Histo[n].
