The sheet brake (4) has a brake band arranged along a sheet supplying path for holding a sheet (5). A drive is provided to actuate brake bands in a discontinuous synchronized manner. The direction of motion of the brake band changes once during a clock pulse. The brake bands differently trained, at which the printing substrate has an aligned area. An independent claim is included for a method for a drive of sheet brake of a printing machine.
