A flood lighting lantern comprises a hollow body 1 closed by a cover glass 2 in a frame hinged to the body and containing a reflector of trough shape with flat end walls 10, the space 17 between the end wall and the end of the body housing the holders 18 for the end caps of a filament lamp 14 and being provided with air inlets and outlets 22, 23 for cooling air. The lower end of the reflector is spaced from the cover glass 3 so that air can also circulate over the inner surface of the reflector and the cover glass, the end walls of the reflector being formed with a straight edge 15 to provide an outlet 16 for the air. The holders 18 are formed of or fitted in a heavy mass of heat-conducting material 20 having a finned cover 24 outside the body to assist in the cooling. The walls 10 are slotted to allow of insertion of the lamp 14. The air outlet 23 may be located between two supporting lugs 6 for the body instead of at the end, the air inlet being provided by an offset portion in the side of the body adjacent the reflector. |
