<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device configured to perfectly uniformize luminance distribution projected to a screen without causing luminance degradation even when a plurality of lamps are partially lit or even when illuminance distribution becomes uneven because components are deviated by external shock or the like, and misalignment of an optical axis is caused. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Lamps 21 and 22 are held by holding bodies respectively to constitute lamp units 31 and 32. The lamp units 31 and 32 include adjustment mechanisms (not shown) physically parallel moving up and down and right and left, and include rotating mechanisms (not shown) rotating at angles α and β on the optical axis, and the lamp units 31 and 32 are positionally moved so that the luminance distribution and brightness on the screen can be optimum.
