The device has an impulse producing unit with an explosion unit (10) for distributing high acceleration to an active medium (22). An explosion chamber (14) is connected with an explosion impulse transmission piston (18), where an explosive gas mixture explodes in the explosion chamber. A compression unit (30) compresses combustion gas in the impulse producing unit over the active medium such that the combustion gas comes to explosion and developed impulse is transferred to a hollow workpiece (24) i.e. pipe, over the medium, where the developed impulse is applied for engraving a tool (26). An independent claim is also included for a method for impulse-high internal pressure forming a hollow workpiece.
