Stable foamable melamine formaldehyde resin in powder form and of improved mechanical properties is obtained from a melamine formaldehyde condensate by adding to an aqueous solution of the condensate between 3 and 15% by weight based on the melamine resin, of casein rendered soluble by alkali, and evaporating the solution to dryness under mild conditions, either under vacuum or by spray drying. In the example an aqueous solution of melamine formaldehyde condensate was mixed with an aqueous solution of casein, rendered soluble by Na 2 CO 3 and borax and dried either in a vacuum cabinet at 65‹ C. or by a spray drier. |
