PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which is capable of light emission in high luminance and high efficiency and in which increase in drive voltage, occurrence of undesirable voltage rise, and emission in the region other than the intended emitting region are suppressed. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element A includes a plurality of luminous layers 4 having an organic luminous layer between a positive electrode 1 and a negative electrode 2 laminated through an intermediate layer 3. The intermediate layer 3 includes a conductive layer 3a containing a conductor with a specific resistance of 1×10<SP>5</SP>Ωcm or less at 23°C and a hole injection layer 3b containing a hole-injecting metal oxide. The hole injection layer 3b and the conductive layer 3a are laminated in order from the cathode 2 side, and the thickness of the conductive layer 3a is 10 nm or less. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
