摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for optical distance measurement that correctly operates by reducing unneeded measurements, even under an environment where there is much disturbance light and the disturbance light varies, and to provide a method for optical distance measurement. SOLUTION: In a 3D camera 10, a histogram circuit 337 repeatedly measures the time difference between pulse beam projection time of a light projection section 20 and pulse beam reception time of an avalanche photodiode 332 and creates a time difference histogram; and a signal processing circuit 338 calculates the distance to an object, based on the maximum value of the histogram created by the histogram circuit 337. In the 3D camera, the signal processing circuit 338 calculates the reliability of the histogram created by the histogram circuit 337 and allows the histogram circuit 337 to stop creating the histogram, when the calculated reliability of the histogram is not less than a threshold, thus stopping creating a histogram when the histogram has high reliability, even under an environment where there is much turbulence light and the turbulence light varies, thus reducing unneeded measurements and operations.
