<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method in which an image portion that is necessary for a user is kept, and an image portion that is unnecessary for the user is removed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image processing method, pixels are sequentially picked up one by one at a predetermined pitch from among the pixels that constitute the original image data, and the picked up pixels are set as reference pixels. An adjacent region is set for each of the reference pixels and an average value of similar densities in the adjacent region is calculated. Then, a wide region is set for each of the reference pixels, and an average value of similar densities in the wide region is calculated.
