<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for inhibiting a drop of cooling efficiency. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This EGR cooler cools EGR gas by heat exchange of EGR gas and coolant. The EGR cooler has a wall surface at an EGR gas flow side at a thermal contact part of the EGR gas and the coolant coated by coating material. The coating material is coated in such a manner that degree of rise of efficiency of heat conduction through the contact part due to deterioration of the coating material by time by flow of the EGR gas and degree of drop of heat conduction through the contact part due to adhesion of exhaust gas component on a wall surface of at an EGR gas flow side of the con tact part by flow of the EGR gas are substantially equivalent.
