<p>A liquid crystal display device (100) is provided with: a liquid crystal layer (1) containing polymeric molecules; a front substrate (3) and a rear substrate (2) which hold the liquid crystal layer (1) therebetween; a pair of electrodes (4, 8) which apply a voltage to the liquid crystal layer (1); polarization plates (16, 15) arranged on the front side of the front substrate (3) and the rear side of the rear substrate (2); and first and second alignment films (13, 12) formed between the liquid crystal layer (1) and the front substrate (3) and between the liquid crystal layer and the rear substrate (2), respectively. Alignment processing is performed to at least one of the alignment films (12, 13), and in the liquid crystal layer (1), each pixel has a plurality of liquid crystal regions (11) and a wall (10) which is positioned between the adjacent liquid crystal regions (11) and contains polymeric molecules. The liquid crystal regions (11) include two liquid crystal regions wherein the in-plane orientation of the liquid crystal molecules on an interface on the alignment film side to which the alignment processing is performed is in parallel to the orientation specified by the alignment processing, and the tilt directions of the liquid crystal molecules on the interface are different from each other.</p> |
