<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a single plate projection type display apparatus that achieves thinning in the vertical direction of a device case, is compact and superior in portability, and has a good projection performance. <P>SOLUTION: The single plate projection type display apparatus reflects an illumination light comprising linear polarization from a light source unit 1 at a right angle in a PBS 12. The reflected light is made incident on a single reflective liquid crystal display device 16, and a modulated light is projected on a screen by a projection lens 20 through the PBS 12. A position where an optical axis (line segment X of Fig.1(b)) of the projection lens 20 is crossed with the reflective liquid crystal display device 16 is set so as to be shifted from a middle position of a display surface of the reflective liquid crystal display device 16. When considering the plane (a) (equal to a space in Fig.1(b)) formed of a surface normal (line segment P of Fig.1(b)) in the middle position of the display surface of the reflective liquid crystal display device 16 and the optical axis X of projection lens 20, the optical axis X becomes perpendicular to the plane (a) and the normal of a polarized light separating surface 14 becomes parallel to the plane (b) including the optical axis X of the projection lens 20. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
