<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a belt-type continuously variable transmission satisfying an acceleration request of a vehicle while relatively minimizing the fuel consumption of an engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device includes: a gear change request determination means (steps S1 and S2) which determines whether a request of gear ratio change of the belt-type continuously variable transmission is present or not; a first calculation means (step S3) which determines, when the request of gear ratio change is present, a fuel consumption of the engine in a case where the gear ratio is changed; a second calculation means (step S4) which determines, when the request of gear ratio change is present, a fuel consumption of the engine in a case the gear ratio is maintained constant; a first gear ratio control means (step S6) which continues control to maintain the gear ratio constant when the fuel consumption determined by the second calculation means (step S4) is smaller than the fuel consumption determined by the first calculation means (step S3); and a second gear ratio control means (step S7) which changes the gear ratio when the fuel consumption determined by the first calculation means (step S3) is smaller than the fuel consumption determined by the second calculation means (step S4).
