<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device that can be reduced in thickness in a state where the device is closed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A first projection 22 for accommodating a connecting shaft 40 is provided projectingly from an operation panel 20a, on which an operating section 21 is provided, of a first case 20, a second projection 23 is provided between the first projection 22 and the operating section 21, and at least one of a camera 24 and a speaker 25 is accommodated. On a display screen 30a of a second case 30, a recessed portion 34 is provided for accommodating the second projection 23 in a state where the first case 20 and the second case 30 are stacked and closed. Thus, the second projection 23 is prevented from being protruded from the first case 20 and the second case 30 in the closed state, so that a portable electronic device 10 is made thin in the closed state.
