PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent interruption in the middle of the printing of printing job data of a user, and to maximally utilize a maximum capacity of a paper discharge tray in a printer such as an inkjet printer. SOLUTION: This discharged-sheet monitoring mechanism for a printer is equipped with a paper discharge table accumulating discharged paper, a mounting amount detection part 331 detecting a mounting amount of the paper accumulated on the discharge table, a paper type acquiring part 336 acquiring the type of paper being an object of image formation, a remaining amount calculating part 332 calculating a stackable remaining amount until the paper discharge table is filled on the basis of the mounting amount detected by the mounting amount detection part 331, a quantity calculating part 334 calculating a dischargeable number of sheets of paper on the basis of the type of paper acquired by the paper type acquiring part and the remaining amount calculated by the remaining amount calculating part, and a notification part 333 notifying the remaining amount calculated by the quantity calculating part 332.
