PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new device for inhalation with heliox gas. SOLUTION: A medical device 10 for the pulmonary delivery of a drug in heliox gas includes: an aerosolization means 12, a conduit means 18, a gas mask 14, and a source of heliox gas, the medical device being operable as a closed system to prevent entrainment of ambient air into an inhaled aerosol. The device 10 allows the aerosol to flow through the conduit means 18 and into the gas mask 14 secured over a patient's mouth and nose in a manner for the patient to inhale the aerosol without dilution of the aerosol with ambient air.
