Removal of carbon monoxide from a crude hydrogen chloride gas (HCl) comprises providing crude HCl gas having hydrogen chloride and carbon monoxide; compressing crude HCl gas to form compressed crude HCl gas; cooling compressed crude HCl gas to form liquefied HCl and gas having carbon monoxide; separating liquefied HCl and gas comprising carbon monoxide; evaporating to form purified HCl gas; and feeding to HCl oxidation process.
